There is over 1,000 kilometres of coastline in Victoria which fronts the open ocean, providing many ideal surfing spots.

Bells Beach, near Torquay, is Victoria's most famous surf beach, hosting international surfers that compete in the annual Rip Curl Pro. Noted for its large ocean swells, it is not for the faint-hearted and is more suited to experienced surfers.

For beginners, one of the best beaches to learn surfing at is at Ocean Grove. The fairly flat beach with gentle surf is ideal for mastering this iconic water sport.

Phillip Island is also an acclaimed area to surf, with beaches at Cape Woolamai, Smiths Beach and Summerlands declared as part of Australia's National Surfing Reserves which recognise iconic sites of cultural and historic significance in Australian surfing.

There are many surf schools based along Victoria's coast where experienced surfers provide lessons to beginners or those who wish to further develop their skills. So there is no excuse not to give surfing a go!
